A blog to let anyone be aware of what I'd might be doing in the states...

I have chosen to be an exchange student from Denmark to USA 2010/2011, and this blog is to let possible readers know what I've been up to during my stay in the states. I will try to update it as often as possible...

2nd semester

As we say goodbye to last semester, we say what uuuup to 2nd. My classes are as followed: French, Creative Writing and Poetry, Team Sports, Sociology, Practical Public Speaking, and U.S. History.

Good classes, nothing too challenging, but fun. I just finished my final exams for 1st semester, with all A's except French which turned out to be a B. (Ya I know Grandma you are not very proud of that, but there is a funny story behind it. Don't worry I know my stuff, haha). The new classes which I've had for, what is it now, 2 weeks? Yea almost.. They are a lot of fun. A bit harder and more demanding than my past classes, but I enjoy them. French is the same, the only thing I really get out of it, is some speaking experience and an improved vocabulary. Creative W n' P is something else. A class only for writing essays, poems, songs, figuratively whatever comes to mind. Team Sports, well uhm, there's a treasure. Pretty much only athletes takes this class, you have to have taken PE Foundations first to take it, but not if your name is Fes. (Yes I do still watch HIMYM and That 70' Show all the time.. For those of you who can't break the code for the abbreviation, it's a tv show I make references to and talk about a lot, Skipper know what I'm talking about). Anyways, the class is pretty much a class where you play a lot of different sports every day. We just had 10 days of floorball (hockey). And then you get a test about the sport. Everyone's very competitive, and even your least interesting sport, will be worth sharing blood to win. (ex. Basketball, I suck at it). Sociology, the study of human behavior as shaped by group life. Interesting, that's where your life experience can be used. Practical PS, simply a class where you do speeches, prepare them, sometimes improvise, for a certain category. I just did my first one, Informal Introduction Speech, and I killed it. Twisted the way of doing it a little, and it turned out well. Heck yeaa. I was questioning my ability to speak english right before I went up on the podium. I was afraid I was gonna turn over into danish. And last, and yes least, U.S. His. I didn't think it was possible to get a weirder teacher than Mr. Schmid, but yet again I was proven wrong. Mr. Nuckolls stepped in. He has his own way of doing things. Let me just put it that way. History is interesting enough, but just not rolling on floor laughing my *** off interesting. Idk, maybe it's because of all the homework. Well when has history ever been that interesting. It's important, and something you just need to know.

Besides all this, the time is flying by. we're already mid february, and I got my letter about my departure. The 28th of June. Yes, it IS weird thinking about going home. Wait no, I shouldn't even be thinking about this yet. There's still about 4 months left. You know what, I'm just gonna enjoy the time I have left, and suddenly wake up the day before I eave for the airport, and save the speculations and thoughts for then. The days are getting warmer, the snow is slowly melting, and Spring Break is around the corner. Can I keep up?

PS. I have realized something while being over here. I am not very good at taking pictures. Good thing I have such a good memory...................

So uhm, long time no see..

Days have come and days have gone and a lot has happened since last time. I've experienced Christmas and New Yeas Eve the American way, and waauuw it was different. We, in the Cova Family tried to mix some danish traditions into the tradition, and it was a lot of fun. We threw a Christmas party at our house with family and friends. At New Years I went to a party at a friends house, and it was a lot of fun to see how they celebrated the event. I just started school again, and I could already dream of another break. The snowboarding/ski season has begun, and I've bought myself some new twin-tips who are rocking the hills. It would be an exaggeration to call it mountains but its fun though. And by passing New Year it means that the first half of my exchange year is almost over.

And then some time after that...

Yea, it's been a long time since the last update on how the exchange year is going. And I must say it's going pretty damn well. I've found some guys from the hockey team, the Bow Tie Boyz and co., and those are the guys that I am pretty much hanging with most of the time. About school, well, as soon as I kinda got use to all the new stuff, the days are getting more n more similar. I think that is how school is all over the world. It's something u have to do. The Fall Hockey season has ended, and it has been quite an experience to get to know all of the other hockey players, and to play on a such a high level... It's great! Now the try-outs are coming up next week, I'm crossing my fingers that I am gonna make it. I'll skate my ass off, and do the best I can to make it. If that's not the case, then I'm pretty sure that there's a lot other things to do at Novi High School :) I've been introduced to a new sport called Lacrosse. I saw it on TV for the first time over here, and now I've got all the equipment I need to start practicing. I'm gonna try-out for the team in spring. Some of the varsity players are getting together after school sometimes after school to play, and tomorrow I'm joining them. I hope I can keep up, I don't think so, but it'll be fun. I like the sport and I have been practicing cradling and shooting in the drive-way. Another thing is that I've got some good grades in my classes so far, and it's a good thing I didn't that hard classes, cause then I would be using too much time doing homeork instead of being out there experiencing the american ways.. That's all I have time to write for now.

2 weeks and 1 day later..

Well, today's blog update is going to be written in danish.. There's so much english going on around me, and therefore I thought it was about time for some danish.

Jajaaa, dansk.. Hmm ?

I skolen begynder lektierne efterhånden at strømme ind...

Oh dear God ! - School's coming up...

So, tomorrow is the day, huh... I guess so. The day where i will walk the halls of Novi High School. And here the day before, I'm actually not that terrified. Maybe because I have been doing a lot the last week, I haven't had the time to be terrified. I can't wait though, I'm anxious and excited to have my first day of school. It's gonna be mind blowing...

The days up till this day, has actually been going by pretty fast. I've been introduced to a great new family that I'm supposed to live with for a whole year (10 months), I have met other exchange students and their friendly families, been to some very different parties, Cedar Point, Kalahari Resort with a gigantic water park, two great days by a lake at "Uncle Brent's" house and met some of Karen Kotcher's (Bjoern the norwegian exchange student's host mom) awesome family members. We went tubing, water skiing etc. It was literally awesome. Here's some pics from the lake house, don't have them all, there is also some video clips, but those will be put out in the time to come.

A quick update

I've just come back from my soccer try-out. It went well I think. It surprised me, how good they actually were. I just didn't know if soccer was a big thing in America. Last night I got on the ice with the Michigan Elite Team down in St. Mary. It was good to see how the competition was like. Now I know what it will take to join the Novi Varsity Hockey Team. Just in about 15 minutes I have to go 'cause I'm going to meet some people down by the lake. We're going to do waterskiing some tubing etc. It will be fun :) See ya
